Teen goes on backpacking retreat in New Mexico

This past summer I boarded a plane to Cimarron, N.M., (about two hours north of Santa Fe). I was in my Boy Scout uniform and on my way to the finest scout camp. As I tilted my head back on the seat I made one thing clear to myself: I wanted to learn more about my faith.

Grandma Millie Butler recognized for her work as foster grandparent

This past summer, Catholic Charities honored senior citizens who have volunteered to be foster grandparents for children with special needs. The Foster Grandparent program, founded in 1972, provides troubled children with the care and comfort they need to improve skills, and also gives vibrant seniors an opportunity to help in their community. read more...
Oblate Sisters of Providence celebrate 50 years in diocese

A large celebration in honor of the 50 years of service in Western New York of the Oblate Sisters of Providence took place at St. Martin de Porres Church in Buffalo to acknowledge the influence this small group of religious women have had on the community and also to reunite the sisters with some of their former students.

 Stirring remembrance services marking the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on three locations in the United States were held on Sept. 11, with President Barack Obama joining his predecessor, George W. Bush, at Ground Zero in New York City where the national memorial was dedicated. Prayers were said in churches throughout the Diocese of Buffalo and across the nation as worshippers took time to pray for the victims, their families and friends, first responders and members of the U.S. military.

This month marks the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States. Nearly 3,000 people were killed after two hijacked planes flew into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. Another plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., while another crashed into a Pennsylvania field after passengers reportedly fought the hijackers.

Unemployment has been on a near constant increase over the past five years, currently standing at 9.1 percent after hitting a peak of 10.1 percent in October 2009. Salaries and wages for poor and middle class workers have stagnated while the top income earners continue to prosper exponentially, widening the gap in income disparity that’s been an ongoing trend for more than 30 years.

Resources offer help with Roman Missal 3

In September, the diocese will begin the third and final tier of workshops in anticipation of the third edition of the Roman Missal.  Instruction will take part at the parish level and will be led by pastors and those who have participated in the first and second tiers.

Felician Sisters attend historic provincial chapter

 More than 200 Felician Sisters, including 36 from Western New York, joined in a celebration of community life, spiritual reflection, and discussion of future directions at the historic first provincial chapter of the Felician Sisters’ new North American province, Our Lady of Hope, which took place in Chicago.
