Feb1 Bishop Kmiec comments on contraception mandate

I write to you concerning an alarming and serious matter that negatively impacts the Church in the United States directly, and that strikes at the fundamental right to religious liberty for all citizens of any faith. The federal government, which claims to be “of, by, and for the people,” has just dealt a heavy blow to almost a quarter of those people—the Catholic population—and to the millions more who are served by the Catholic faithful.

Mount Mercy Academy and Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School in South Buffalo have teamed up with nearby Mercy Hospital to offer students a head start in the medical field. Through internships and one-on-one interactions with hospital personnel, students can learn about everything from emergency care to marketing. Jan20 Bishops vow to fight birth control ruling

In a move that angered religious leaders, the federal government’s Health and Human Services department, under the Obama administration, announced Friday that church-related institutions must provide free birth control coverage for women in their employee insurance plans by next year.
