St. Mary's celebrates first year in new church with BPO and jazz

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec dedicated the bigger, yet more intimate worship site at St. Mary Parish in Swormville on June 5, 2010. He returned to celebrate the anniversary Mass and the sacrament of confirmation for 140 young people in the parish on June 5.

It took a future saint riding on horseback into a wooded marsh in 1836 to form the second parish in the Diocese of Buffalo. St. John Neumann, then a New York City diocesan priest, was assigned to a parish founded by German settlers in an area known as North Bush. The church was a log cabin. The parish remains St. John the Baptist, now located in Kenmore.

Bishop Grosz leaves legacy through parish ministry

During his 40-year career as a priest, Bishop Edward M. Grosz has gone back and forth between parish ministry and office work, serving as assistant at four parishes before being named director of the Office of Worship. He would later serve as pastor of four parishes over a 19-year span.

Bishop calls for special collection for tornado relief
