Sister Mary Francelita Machnica, CSSF, and Sister Mary Edwardine Machnica, CSSF, are two of a kind. Between them, the two real-life siblings have more than 120 years of service as Felician Sisters. For the better part of two decades, they have traveled to one of the poorest counties in South Carolina to minister to the poor, and at 79 and 80 years old they show no signs of slowing down. read more...
Jan12 Catholic Charities shoots for $10.6 million goal

After last year’s successful appeal, the people at Catholic Charities are ready to raise their game by $100,000 by announcing a $10.6 million campaign goal during a press conference at the South Buffalo Food Pantry Wednesday morning.

Jan9 Occupy movement and Church teaching share common traits

For several months now, people have camped out in cities throughout the country, protesting the growing economic inequity and corporate democracy in a movement called Occupy Wall Street. Buffalo is no different, as locals have parked in front of City Hall and are bearing down for the cold winter months.

The Catholic Education Division of the Diocese of Buffalo looked to Bishop Edward U. Kmiec’s motto of “Charity and Service” to decide how to honor him. In recognition of his golden jubilee of priesthood, young people of the diocese, from kindergarten to high school, will participate in a diocesanwide food drive labeled “Feed His Flock.” read more...
