Occupy movement and Church teaching share common traits

For several months now, people have camped out in cities throughout the country, protesting the growing economic inequity and corporate democracy in a movement called Occupy Wall Street. Buffalo is no different, as locals have parked in front of City Hall and are bearing down for the cold winter months.

New year issue of the WNY Catholic now available online

The new issue of the Western New York Catholic, which is the first edition of the new year, is now available online and in parishes throughout the diocese.  Among the featured stories in the January paper are Bishop Edward U. Kmiec's trip to the Vatican, what the Catholic Church teaches about the social issues surrounding Occupy Wall Street and the annual Celebrate Catholic Schools supplement.

2012 March for Life is accepting reservations

The Buffalo Diocese and hundreds of thousands of Catholics and others in solidarity will make a pilgrimage of public witness, penance and prayer for all those victimized by the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, and for the conversion of those who misguidedly perpetuate it.

Sisters look to help their communities’ missions in Africa

Sister Paschalia Nyeura, FSSB, and Sister Carissima Ogbu, DMMM, are different kinds of missionaries. They were born in Africa and have worked for their communities’ mission outreaches. WYD catechesis helps pilgrims be firm in the faith

The crowd of 1.5 million people gathered in a Spanish airfield to hear the pope celebrate Mass contrasts greatly with the daily catechesis sessions presented to the World Youth Day pilgrims. Nestled comfortably in St. Antonio Church in Madrid, 27 young travelers from the Diocese of Buffalo heard from the archbishop of Boston, Cardinal Sean P.
