When I was growing up, my Grandma DeAngelis lived with us. I never really thought twice about it. As an only child, it meant always having a playmate around, only this one would teach me how to make pasta, and she’d braid my hair and she’d listen to me talk and sing. It wasn’t until she passed when I was 10 years old that I truly realized how lucky I was to have her there. read more...
Bishop Kmiec to celebrate anniversary Mass on Oct. 30

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, Oct. 30, at St. Joseph Cathedral in downtown Buffalo marking the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. The Mass will also commemorate the seventh anniversary of his installation as bishop of Buffalo as well as his 29th anniversary of ordination as a bishop and his upcoming retirement. read more...
In the Midst of the Storm

Where is Jesus in the midst of the storm? Where is Jesus in the midst of everything that is happening in the world around us? It may be difficult to recognize Jesus, especially when we are right in the midst of a storm. In the midst of the storm of losing a loved one to death, to a sickness, to violence, to war and/or suicide we may ask, “Jesus, where are You?” In the midst of the storm of a financial crisis, will I be able to feed my family and keep a roof over our heads? We may ask, Jesus, are You there? Hello? In the midst of the storm of a divorce or separation, where are You? Or it could be in the midst of the storm of depression and anxiety, of battling with cancer or a family member who is battling with a drug addiction or any other addiction. Young Christians see face of God while serving His people

Making a difference in someone’s life can be as easy as pie. Forty-two teenagers learned that lesson during the annual Young Christians at Work service program. The program, sponsored by the Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, is an intense five-day workcamp and training program held during Holy Week, this year April 19-23.

Bishop Kmiec reflects on his service to diocese

 As I approach my 75th birthday on June 4, and prepare to comply with the requirement of Canon 401, §1 of the Code of Canon Law that requires bishops to submit their resignation from office to the Holy Father upon reaching that age, I have been invited to offer a reflection on the latter seven year part of my tenure of 29 years as a bishop, which has been here as Bishop of Buffalo.
